We recently posted 6 skincare tips for you, and the response was amazing! We’re so happy that so many of you want to take care in the sun to protect you skin from harmful rays. Some of you asked, “what about the kids?” So we put our heads together and came up with these 6 tips, just for them. Here are some great summer skin care tips for kids to help you prevent painful sunburns and redness.

#1 Always apply sunscreen!

Kids can have sensitive skin, so it’s important to find the right sunscreen for them. Once you find the one that works, use it as often as possible and make sure to reapply it all over their uncovered skin as much as the instructions say. It’s important to apply it every few hours when they’re playing outside, and even more frequently when they’ve been in and out of the pool or ocean.

#2 Use special scalp sunscreen!

You may not have thought of this yourself, but thank goodness others have. While hair offers some protection, it’s not enough. The good news is that there are some fantastic spray sunscreens made especially for their tender scalp. Forgot their hat? No problem!

#3 Wear a hat!

Speaking of hats, make sure you have a few on hand for the hot summer months. Not only will a great hat protect their scalp, but they’ll offer some cool shade as well. What’s one of the best things about being a kid? Cool hats!

#4 Stay hydrated!

What’s the best thing for your child’s skin? Drinking water, and lots of it. We know they love juice, but water hydrates better and is better for them! If they’re getting hungry a great summer snack is watermelon – which is also great to provide some hydration.

#5 Pay attention to the time!

It’s no secret – or at least it shouldn’t be – that the sun in at its strongest between 10 AM and 2 PM. Do your best to keep them out of the sun during this peak time. It’s the perfect time for a puzzle or board game instead!

#6 Cool down!

During summer months, turn the water temperature down for their shower or bath. A cool shower feels great and will keep them refreshed and ready for anything!
